The Chromebook is an important tool that MCDS has issued to you in order to support and enhance your learning and creativity. Our hope is that the device will allow you to create content in new ways. In order to be the best learner and most productive student you can be please:
- Bring the Chromebook each day to school, fully charged. It's best to get in the habit of charging your device at the end of the day each day. That way, you get a full night's charge and will be ready for the start of school the following morning.
- Keep the Chromebook in its neoprene sleeve. The Chromebook can get dinged, dented or scratched if not properly cared for. Keeping it in the sleeve at all times helps to ensure it stays protected from accidental wear and tear.
- Store the Chromebook in a safe place when not in use. If you are not using the Chromebook during a portion of a class, or outside of class, be sure to store it in a safe location. Look for a safe part of the backpack where it won’t get sandwiched by books or other objects that might damage the screen or place the device on table/bench (NOT on the ground! Please do not fling backpacks with iPad inside.) If it breaks, students should inform the Tech Department, their advisor, Upper School Division Head, and Upper School Dean of Students immediately in any event of breakage, loss or theft. Repairs cost $80.00. For an incidence of loss, families will be asked to replace the device at the going rate or roughly $400.00. This includes market value of a current comparable current device, a replacement case, and the full suite of MCDS iPad apps. Families will be invoiced by the Business Office and billed according to their student’s rate of tuition.
- Use the Chromebook for school-related activities. The Chromebook is intended for educational school-related purposes. Recess and lunch are moments to enjoy a "tech timeout" and connect with friends, exercise and enjoy our beautiful campus. Games (unless sanctioned by your teacher and the Director of Academic Technology) should be saved for home
- Keep electronic communication school related. During classes, electronic communication is to be focused solely on the activity at hand. No non-school related e-communication is allowed. Please check your MCDS email account at least once per day.

- If you need to clean the screen, use a soft cloth (such as those used for sunglasses) and wipe the screen in a circular motion. Do not use any cleaning liquids.
- Inform the Tech Department of any Chromebook breakage or performance issues by completing the Chromebook Repair Request form.
